We love the fact that Summer here lasts well into September. In fact, early September we can usually count on for having the BEST weather of the year; it’s in the 80’s with very little chance of rain OR 90 degree heat. Perfection.
For some of you, this weekend marks the last “official” weekend of Summer. Back to School. Back to Work. Back to the grind. But if you weren’t “Johnny on the Spot” and you didn’t get camping reservations for this weekend, we’ve got some great ideas for ways to spend this weekend close by! (Plus you’ll likely see us at most of these places and events…..)
We’ve included a cupcake pairing with each event. You’re welcome!
This 18th Waterfront Concert begins at 2:30 pm and launches the Oregon Symphony season. No tickets are required. Bring low-profile chairs or blankets for lawn seating, a little something to eat & drink and sit back and enjoy. Ends with FIREWORKS at dusk!
(Cupcake Recommendation: Downtown Cupcake Brown because nothing is more American than a chocolate cupcake.)
Get up to 80% off at participating retailers Friday through Monday! (You’ll need a cupcake to get through it all…)
(Cupcake Recommendation: “What’s Up Doc?” because you’ll feel like you can fit in a smaller dress size eating vegetables in your cupcake!)
Art In The Pearl®, Portland Oregon’s annual Fine Arts & Crafts Festival, occurs every year on Labor Day weekend. The 18th annual festival will occur on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, August 30, 31 & September 1, 2014 in the Pearl District’s North Park Blocks. The Festival is FREE and requires NO TICKETS for entry. Art In The Pearl has been named one of the top 10 Arts and Crafts Festivals in the country (source: Art Fair Source Book). The festival fills the Northwest Portland Park blocks with art, theater, music, food, and hands-on activities for people of all ages.
(Cupcake Recommendation: “Mocha Mudslide” with Kahlua and Irish Cream flavors because you’ll feel very adult looking at all that art!)
The 2014 Chapman Swifts Watch starts Labor Day Weekend in NW Portland. Crowds gather one hour before sunset every night in September to watch thousands of Vaux’s Swifts gather in the city as they prepare to migrate to Central America and Venezuela. An amazing sight and fun for all ages!
(Cupcake Recommendation: “Peanut Butter and Jelly” because birds like peanuts…..and berries…. right? I don’t know, it just sounds good!)
Spend the last day of Summer Vacation acting like you are REALLY on vacation! Sun, sand, food, drinks, friends. Stop at one of the many produce stands on your way to a Sauvie Island beach and stock up on locally grown healthy snacks. Remember the sunscreen ‘cuz it’s it may only be 77 degrees but that sun is sneaky…
(Cupcake Recommendation: White Chocolate Marionberry because Sauvie Island! Um, duh….)
We love living here…..
See you out there!
